The conference “The destination of European funds in Catalonia” was held on 21 February. This conference, in online format and broadcast live on youtube, was organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Open Government of the Generalitat de Catalunya and had more than 300 participants.

On this day, Martín Alba, CREDA researcher and main author of the study, was in charge of presenting the main results of this project. Among the most outstanding, we can mention that more than 1,500 Catalan entities have raised more than 2 billion euros in 4,855 projects financed with competitive European funds in the period 2014-2020. This represents 22% of the funds raised in Spain, 22% of the entities and 28% of the projects. In addition, in the Horizon 2020 program, Catalonia is the first autonomous community in fundraising, concentrating almost 30% of the funds raised in Spain. At the European level, Catalonia captures a similar amount to Finland and surpasses other countries such as Portugal and Hungary.

Councilor Victòria Alsina (Foreign Action and Open Government) was in charge of chairing the conference. In addition, Manuel Szapiro, Director of the Representation of the European Commission in Barcelona, gave the opening speech together with the Minister.

The conference was also attended by other representatives of the same ministry in conjunction with the Ministry of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda; the one of Social Rights; and the Ministry of Business and Labor. On the other hand, there was also the participation of the representation of the European Commission in Spain; of the Red Cross and the I-CERCA Foundation.
