SWITCHtoHEALTHY – Switching Mediterranean consumers to Mediterranean sustainable healthy dietary patterns

SWITCHtoHEALTHY project is funded by the PRIMA 2021 call and seeks to develop educational tools, methodologies and strategies with the aim of promoting consumption and increasing adherence to the Mediterranean diet in families with children at school age, from primary to secondary school. By reinforcing the role of the family in promoting sustainable change habits, where all members have a voice and an assigned role, of mutual influence.

SWITCHtoHEALTHY will implement the use of tools and methodologies such as mobile apps, innovative educational strategies through participating schools, and healthy plant-based snacks. In this way, the aim is to empower the citizens of the Mediterranean to make more informed decisions about the healthiest and most sustainable foods for their health and for planet’s health.

Parents will use the interactive digital tools (SWITCHtoHEALTHY application) to prepare healthier weekly menus for the whole family unit, encouraging children’s participation in the weekly purchase and menu definition. The educational material will be used to help families acquire healthier habits and to educate children and adolescents. Finally, healthy and nutritious plant-based snacks will be introduced into children’s meal plans to complement them and replace less healthy options between meals. The development of these snacks will be based on nutritional content and the use of proximity ingredients, sustainability and healthy consumption to help
agri-food producers find new business opportunities.
