The Centre de Recerca en Economia i Desenvolupament Agroalimentari (CREDA) is one of the partner entities of the European SureNexus project, an initiative that aims to facilitate the transition and adaptation to climate change and mitigation through the implementation of the NEXUS Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) approach. Within this project, CREDA has the role of determining and validating the key conditions to support this implementation to address food, water and energy security.
Paolo Gnutti, research support technician at the center and one of the colleagues involved in the project, explains where CREDA is at:
What is the current status of CREDA in the project?
CREDA is currently initiating a Delphi questionnaire within WP5 (Enabling factors), a package led by the center. This questionnaire is based on an interactive survey, structured in several rounds of questions, answered by a panel of experts with the aim of reaching a consensus on specific topics or on complex issues of integrating different perspectives.
This type of questionnaire is designed to explore and assess the uncertainties, knowledge gaps and enabling factors in the implementation of projects related to the WEFE Nexus. With the participation of experts from various countries, the responses of the Delphi method will allow deepening the understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the Mediterranean region, as well as to foster a collaborative dialogue that can guide future strategies for the implementation of this Nexus. More specifically, the panel will provide perspectives on key areas such as: (1) uncertainties related to climate variability, resource availability and socio-political dynamics; (2) knowledge gaps in approaches, technologies and policies; and (3) enabling factors to support effective design, financing and governance.
Once all the responses from the first round of the questionnaire have been collected and analyzed, CREDA will proceed to prepare the second round, which will be more precise and specific, since it will focus on the topics where the experts have not achieved as much consensus.
SureNexus has received financial support from the Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA 2021 – SECTION 1), supported by the European Union.
