The Departament d’Agricultura, Ramaderia, Pesca i Alimentació has presented the results of the study on the socioeconomic dimension of the maritime activities sector in Catalonia at the Immersion Show at the Cornellà fair.

This study, which the Department has developed in collaboration with CREDA, shows that during 2023 centres of maritime activities generated a business volume of 111 M€, a gross added value of 58,4 M€ and employment of 1.663 people. Figures that represent an increase of 6% compared to the previous year.

In terms of seasonality, recreational maritime activities are concentrated in the warmer months, peaking between June and August. Nearly 58% of centres operate between Easter and November, and only 34% are open all year round.

Since 2022, the Department and CREDA have been collecting information on Catalonia’s blue economy indicators by conducting surveys in all CMAs, with the aim of economically sizing the sector and learning about other areas of interest, such as the origin of clients and customers and the gender distribution of employed personnel.
